1. We start from real questions
Each template answers a specific need. Before writing, we study what people search for and the questions they ask most often about the document (for example "How do I write a payment plan agreement?"). Those questions shape the form fields, the guide and the FAQ on every page.
2. We write original, plain-English text
Every template is written for this site. We do not copy other publishers' templates. Clauses use generic, plain wording that a non-lawyer can read, with optional clauses you can switch on or off.
3. We do not invent legal requirements
Rules differ by state, so our templates avoid state-specific requirements. When a page mentions an official rule, it names its official source (a .gov website) and the date we verified it. When a question depends on state law, we say so and point you to the relevant agency or to a licensed attorney.
4. Who writes and reviews the templates
Templates are written and reviewed by the FreeDocTemplates editorial team. They are not drafted or reviewed by a licensed attorney, which is why every legal template carries a clear disclaimer. See the disclaimer.
5. We test the generators
Calculations (taxes, discounts, rounding, payment schedules, income statement totals) are covered by automated tests, and every template is exported to PDF, Word and, where relevant, Excel in our test suite before each release. Amounts are calculated in cents so totals always add up.
6. We keep it legitimate
Receipt and invoice generators require you to confirm that the document records a real transaction. We do not offer templates that imitate a store's receipts or use third-party logos. See the terms of use.
